JOB SUMMARY

  • Float registered nurses have the potential to work in four areas: Pre-admission testing, Pre-op, PACU, and the operating room. Placement in a work area depends upon need and completion of specific training for that area. The decision to train and place in a particular area is decided by the director of the facility. The following are the job summaries for each area:
  •  Pre-Admission Testing Registered Nurses ensure that all patients have successfully been screened for surgery at the facility. To obtain medical history and medication list from patients and obtain any pre-admission labs and other test as deemed necessary by the surgeon and anesthesia.
  •  Pre-OP Registered Nurses are responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the pre-operative unit.
  •  PACU Registered Nurses are responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the post anesthesia unit.
  •  Operating Room Registered Nurses deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process.  Nurses collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.  Nurses effectively interact with patient and significant others, while maintaining the standard of professional nursing. Registered Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. Due to the broad range of medical conditions they encounter, they must be well-versed in a large variety of health conditions.
  •  Registered Nurses have a professional obligation to participate in committee activities, surveys, and improvement initiatives.  In addition, Registered Nurses must uphold the standards of the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  •  Surgical Services Registered Nurses are responsible for the delivery of safe, effective and quality patient-family centered care in the Operating Room, Gastroenterology lab and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum Education
    • Graduate of Accredited School of Nursing (Diploma, AD, BSN)
  • Minimum Work Experience
    • No Previous Experience required. 
  • Required Licenses/Certifications
    • Registered Nurse
    • CPR-BCLS
    • ACLS, PALS, within 12 months of hire. 
  • Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
    • Maintains professional appearance at all times.
    • Ability to handle confidential information
